5 bold predictions for Redskins vs. Saints in NFL Week 5
1. Alex Smith throws for over 400 yards, 2 TDs
The stat line on this prediction may not be quite as bold as the one tied to Drew Brees. That said, Smith isn’t close to the same caliber of passer as Brees, and he has never actually thrown for 400 yards in his career. For that reason, this prediction would qualify as bold.
At the same time, it’s not entirely crazy. The Saints have been very strong against the run this year, but very weak against the pass. If this game turns into a shootout, Smith is going to have to be the force that carries the offense. It’s unclear whether or not he will up to the challenge, but the point is that he should at least have a chance.
Smith could make a couple of big plays early on — especially if either Jamison Crowder or Paul Richardson is able to get open frequently. In all likelihood, one will see favorable matchups on every play, as Ken Crawley and slot-man P.J. Williams have struggled this year. So, if Smith can find either consistently, it should be a solid day for the offense.
If Smith can hit the 400-yard passing mark for the first time ever, that would be a huge achievement. Adding two scores would be icing on the cake. It’s not likely that this will happen, but it’s at least possible. Thus, it’s our top bold prediction for Week 5.
