5 bold predictions for Redskins vs. Saints in NFL Week 5
4. Chris Thompson leads the Redskins in rushing yards
The Saints are very good at stopping the run, and they actually rank third league-wide in average yards allowed per game at just 79.5. That may make it hard for Adrian Peterson to find success.
Though Monday will be a pseudo-revenge game for Peterson, he just doesn’t project to be as good a matchup against the Saints tough front. Sure, it’s possible he could break off a couple of longer runs, but it seems more likely that he will be stopped for short gains this week.
That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Thompson lead the team in rushing yards. He won’t get anything close to a full workload, but if the Redskins want to keep the Saints honest when he’s on the field, they’ll definitely need to give him some carries. And while Thompson isn’t a strong runner, he’s shifty and quick. And that may allow him to break off a long game.
Given that we expect this game to be an offensive show, the running backs for Washington may not get as much of a chance to tote the rock anyway. So, we’re comfortable predicting Thompson as the team’s lead rusher and don’t be surprised if he achieves those numbers with just 40 or so yards on the ground.
