Fresh off a bye week and now in the driver’s seat for the NFC East, the Washington Redskins will face one of their toughest tests yet and they travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints.

If you told any Redskins fans that ahead of the team’s Week 5 clash with the New Orleans Saints that the team would be in first place in the NFC East, many would look at you in shock. While there was growing optimism around the team in the offseason, it was widely expected that the division was still the Eagles’ to lose. However, they stumbled to a disappointing 2-2 start, and now the Redskins find themselves up a half-game in the standings.

Moving forward, the Redskins are going to have to be at their best in every game. And that starts with their Monday night meeting with the Saints.

New Orleans, a trendy Super Bowl pick before the start of the season, has started the year 3-1, but their record doesn’t exactly reflect their play. They were torched by the Bucs in a shocking Week 1 loss and their defense has continued to be spotty despite them rattling off a three-game win streak. They are certainly beatable, and the Redskins nearly were able to shock them last year — before the defense blew a 14-point lead in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter.

So, in Week 5, the Redskins will have a tough test. They’re on the road in the Superdome playing a team that should be a contender in January and February, and this could be a proving ground for the young squad. With that said, here’s a look at an in-depth preview and key matchups for Redskins vs. Saints in NFL Week 5.
