The Washington Redskins have announced their injury report for Week 3 vs. the Packers. Shawn Lauvao and Troy Apke are both out as they deal with injuries.

Well, the inevitable has happened. The Redskins have suffered an injury on the offensive line, and now their depth will have to perform well in a crucial Week 3 matchup with the Packers.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, Shawn Lauvao and Troy Apke have already been declared out for Sunday’s game against the Packers. Neither declaration comes as a surprise, but the injury to Lauvao is particularly bad news. The Redskins have minimal depth on their interior offensive line and with Lauvao out, they are going to be even thinner.

Granted, it’s not like Lauvao was playing well to start the season for the Redskins. He was manhandled in the Week 2 matchup with the Colts, but the fact is that the team doesn’t really have anyone better than him behind him.

With Lauvao out, Tony Bergstrom is going to enter the lineup and serve as the starting center. That will kick Chase Roullier out to Lauvao’s left guard position. Bergstrom has been a journeyman during his career and he figures to be a below average replacement. Some will argue that he can’t possibly be as bad as Lauvao, but make no mistake. It is possible. Plus, taking snaps away from Roullier at center could stunt his development at the position, so that could be a negative as well.

Also, the absence of Lauvao means that Casey Dunn will likely be the primary backup on the interior line. While I like Dunn as a prospect and he is a good technician, he still needs to add strength before he’s ready to find success in the NFL. If he’s forced into the lineup at any point, things could get ugly for the Redskins.

As for the absence of Apke, that will have less of an impact. He is a speed threat on special teams, but he was never likely to see much action on defense because he is so raw. His replacement, Kenny Ladler, will do a fine job as the fourth safety.

Elsewhere on the team, Zach Brown (oblique), Paul Richardson (shoulder), and Maurice Harris (concussion) are all questionable. Richardson and Brown both seem likely to suit up in the contest, but Harris’ status is still unknown. He missed the first two weeks of the season due to the concussion, but there certainly is a chance that he’ll play. If he doesn’t though, it will be interesting to see if the Redskins decide to activate Breshad Perriman or Michael Floyd at receiver for the game.

The Redskins seem to be in decent health at the moment, but that injury to Lauvao could be a minor problem, especially if Bergstrom struggles in the lineup. We’ll keep monitoring all the latest injury news and will let you know about any many changes or updates ahead of Sunday’s game.
