The Riggo’s Rag Podcast is back at an opportune time in the Redskins 2018 campaign.

Between the 21-9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the rabid advance of Jay Gruden detractors, and the baffling signings of two wide receiver busts, it’s been an interesting week for the Washington Redskins, to say the least.

It makes for plenty to talk about.

The Redskins started out the season strong with a 24-6 win against the Arizona Cardinals. Last week, in Week 2, we learned that the Cardinals are really bad, and the Redskins aren’t as good as they showed in Week 1. They fell at the hands of Indianapolis, a growing team in its own right.

Realistically, we haven’t seen the real Washington Redskins yet. They aren’t the team that demolishes opponents in all facets of the game. And they aren’t the team that exudes ineptitude. The real Redskins, more likely than not, are somewhere in the middle. And over the course of the next few weeks, they need to find themselves, before the season’s grueling pull takes over.

Jay Gruden will have more pressure on his shoulders after a start to the season that mirrors the cliches onlookers have come to know under his tenure. This goes for Alex Smith as well. Far from all of the blame should be placed on Gruden, but the head coach has a responsibility, along with all the other coaches and players, to work toward finding a solution.

This week, the Redskins did some soul searching, making a few unusual transactions and addressing problems that arose in their home opening loss. With the recent developments, we felt it was high time for another podcast. The usual crew got together to talk about the last week, and all that time period entails. Emotions are high after the Redskins split their first two games of the season, but overreactions shouldn’t gain any traction just yet. It’s early, and this team is still making strides toward being a finished product. By season’s end, will this beginning prove to be a reflection of the final record? Or will things change? Until that happens, no one can truly know.
