Postgame Redskins Reality Check for Week 2 vs. Indianapolis
By Tim Payne
5. Reality is, the pass protection for Alex Smith was suspect at points in Week 1.
I said I would be thrilled if Smith made it through the game clean and would be disappointed with another 6-8 blown protection plays.
Prediction: Shawn Lauvao gives up a couple sacks, but the rest of the OL locks it down and keeps Alex upright the rest of the day.
Reality Check: Frankly, this was the most concerning and disappointing aspect of the game for me. Our offensive line was made to look silly by an average defensive front. Lauvao was predictably terrible, but Trent Williams had another two pre-snap penalties, Morgan Moses was getting beat like he stole something, and again, Brandon Scherff and Chase Roullier appeared to regularly miscommunicate on stunts and games up front.
Far from being a strength of the team, the O-Line was a liability in this one. In addition, Williams and Scherff both went down with injuries, which could easily prove to be the worst news of possibly the worst all-around game the Redskins have played in the Jay Gruden era.
