Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson could be in store for a big day against the Colts.

Last week, Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson looked a lot like his former self with a big day against his former team. He clearly didn’t ‘miss the memo‘ with 166 total yards and a rushing touchdown. The ground game fueled a Week 1 victory, but the wide receivers were pretty much non-existent. However, one player that could be in store for a career game against Indianapolis is Josh Doctson.

After racking up 182 rushing yards in the season opener, Washington should be able to exploit the Colts rushing defense. Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, and the aforementioned Peterson accounted for 34 rushes a week ago, and that’s not including the eight carries by quarterback Alex Smith. One strategy Washington’s offense could use is running to set up the deep play action passing game. That could open things up for Doctson downfield.

Defensively, the Colts secondary isn’t nearly as good as Arizona’s. Cornerback Patrick Peterson limited big plays from Doctson by holding him to one catch for 11 yards on three targets. Luckily for Doctson and the Redskins offense, they don’t have to worry about an All-Pro caliber type of player at corner for the Colts. Kenny Moore II and Nate Hairston are the starting defensive backs for the Indianapolis Colts. Hairston was a fifth-round pick in 2017. Moore was college free agent from Valdosta State in 2017, signed by the Colts after starting with the New England Patriots.

If I’m coach Jay Gruden, I would challenge these young corners downfield. The franchise has been hoping for more consistency from Josh Doctson. With the Packers, Saints, and Panthers coming up, the Redskins will need big plays on offense if they’re to upset any of those three teams.

This should be the week that Doctson rewards the Redskins franchise with his first career 100-yard game. Indianapolis isn’t as nearly as good as Arizona is on defense, so Doctson should have his chances to beat the Colts secondary. So Josh Doctson, I challenge you to “Put up your Dukes” and record the first 100-yard game of your young career!
