The Washington Redskins beat the Arizona Cardinals in the season opener 24-6, starting off the Alex Smith era in strong fashion.

Redskins nation has been salivating for this game for weeks now and the team did more than suppress our appetite. They showed the NFC that there is something to fear in Washington.

Many doubted the Washington Redskins heading into the 2018 season and had the Cardinals winning Week 1. Unfortunately for these skeptics, the Redskins proved them wrong and did so with authority.

Not only did the Redskins win, but they won in convincing fashion. Jay Gruden and Co. had a plan from the beginning and executed it to perfection. Of course, the Redskins aren’t perfect and have plenty of areas to work on heading into Week 2, but not only did they impress the NFL world, they also impressed the hard-to-please fans of D.C.

After watching all of Week 1, it’s safe to say that the Redskins looked like the best team in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles did get a victory, but it was a very ugly game. On top of this, the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t get anything going offensively and the New York Giants’ performance looked concerning.

It delights me to see the struggles from the rest of the NFC East because the Redskins are far more talented than people expect. Being overlooked is going to benefit Washington in the long run. Now that we’ve established that the Redskins have put the NFC East on notice, let’s dive into a few takeaways from Washington’s Week 1 victory.
