Football is back!

I know we’ve said that a lot over the last few weeks, but this time, it’s actually back. No more preseason shenanigans. No more pure speculation. Today, we’ll finally get to see who the Washington Redskins are, for better or worse.

For Washington, opening against the Arizona Cardinals is an adequate test. The Cardinals have their fair share of problems, but they have enough pieces to be competitive. They may not be ready for a playoff run yet, but give them a year or two, and they could be dangerous.

In this sense, the Cardinals are not unlike the Washington. Washington is a team with pieces in place, and a hunger to win now (Jay Gruden’s job may depend on it). But their winning ways may be postponed until 2019, when they’ll get Derrius Guice back, and a chance to add key talent in the offseason.

But until then, Washington has a sixteen-game slate to keep them occupied. And who knows? Maybe they’ll exceed expectations and sneak into the post-season. Crazier things have happened. And for teams helmed by Alex Smith, making the playoffs has never been an anomaly.

That said, we have yet to see Smith take regular season snaps in burgundy and gold, so let’s hold off on the praise for now. We won’t have to wait much longer to see it. The game kicks off at 4:25 EST later today. To watch, you can tune in to FOX Sports. If that isn’t available to you, however, don’t worry! FuboTV and NFL Game Pass are adequate options on your mobile device! Before you watch, make sure you take a look at our pregame links, listed below!
