Grading Redskins most controversial moves during roster cuts
The Washington Redskins have made their roster cuts, formed their practice squad, and made some other small moves. Here are the grades for the ones deemed most controversial.
NFL cuts are finally over. After a Labor Day weekend that saw teams across the league cut over 1,800 players, sign 320 to practice squads, and sprinkle in a few other roster moves, the NFL landscape has changed rapidly. The Redskins were a part of that, and now their 53-man roster is formed, has an identity, and will prepare to face the Cardinals on the road in Week 1.
Of course, with all of the roster moves that were made, there were some surprises. Some were controversial. On a league-wide scale, the Cowboys decision to cut veteran kicker Dan Bailey drew scrutiny. And while the Redskins didn’t have anything of that scale, they were still forced to make some tough decisions and part with players that weren’t necessarily easy to part with.
Choosing young talent or proven production can be difficult, and there’s no denying that the Redskins front office and coaching staff had a tough task at hand when trimming down the roster. This was the most talented 90-man unit of the past few seasons, and there were a lot of expectations along with roster. Generally speaking, the higher-ups did a good job of making decisions.
That said, there’s always room for improvement and a little bit of criticism (and a little praise, too). Here’s a look at the grades for the most controversial roster moves that the Redskins made during NFL cuts.
