Redskins: Riggo’s Rag Podcast – Analyzing the final 53-man roster
By Ian Cummings
The Redskins 53-man roster has been released, and there’s a lot to talk about.
The Washington Redskins didn’t publicize their final roster until late yesterday evening, but the delay did not have a negative effect on any post-reveal discussion. The updated roster is flush with surprises, familiar faces, and it wouldn’t have been possible without a few tough cuts.
The biggest takeaway, at first glance, is that there is a youth movement on the rise in Redskins Park. All of the Redskins draft picks made the 53-man roster, aside from Derrius Guice, who is on injured reserve, and in addition to the team’s eight picks from April, Adonis Alexander, the team’s supplemental draft pick, and three undrafted rookies, made the roster as well.
Nineteen total players from the last two drafts reside on the Redskins roster. Per Rich Tandler of NBC Sports Mid-Atlantic, that number makes up 35.8 percent of the 53-man roster. Nearly half of the team’s inclusions are in their first or second year. Think about that. It’s exciting. The potential for high future returns is high with this young squad.
What else is there to take away from this apparent youth movement, and what other roster developments caught the eye of onlookers after the reveal? We’re back with the Riggo’s Rag podcast, and in this episode, it’s the usual crew going over the details of Washington’s finalized roster, talking about the strengths and weaknesses of the team as a whole, the most intriguing decisions, and more. Check it out!
As climactic as yesterday’s events were, the Redskins’ roster finalizing process isn’t quite over. Today at 11:00, waiver claims go through, and at noon, teams can start putting together their practice squads with the leftover players.
