QB Kevin Hogan

I’m not entirely convinced that Hogan belongs on the practice squad. But consider this. Colt McCoy is dealing with a minor thumb injury, so having some organizational depth in case that become more of a problem may not be a bad move.

Hogan doesn’t project to be much more than a very raw backup quarterback. He needs time to develop, but he did flash in the third preseason game and the first half of the fourth contest. He threw two TDs in the loss to the Broncos and led the Redskins to a fairly successful first half in the finale before imploding in the second half. He’s not consistent, but he has some talent and the Redskins did trade to acquire him. So, they obviously see something in him.

Many will point to the fact that Nate Sudfeld, an arguably superior player to Hogan, didn’t get stashed on the practice squad last season. And that’s true. But the fact is that Hogan still offers something and for a team that could use a little extra corner depth, having him on the practice squad to start the season isn’t a bad thing at all.

I could be wrong about Hogan. And honestly, if the team let him go, I would be more than okay with that. But with the current construction of their roster and the minor injury to McCoy, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them hold onto Hogan at least early in the season to provide depth.
