2. OLB Pete Robertson

There’s always room for a very good special teams player on any roster, especially at a position where a team has little depth. That’s why Robertson may be able to fit onto this roster.

Robertson spent most of the last season on the Redskins practice squad, but he possesses very good athletic ability and was a strong pass rusher in college. He may not be a well-known face, but he has some talent and has flashed at times this offseason.

I identified Robertson as a potential dark horse during training camp after he received some praise from Jay Gruden. Here’s what I said about Robertson at that time.

More from Riggo's Rag

"Robertson could be on the verge of being a breakout player. Because of this, he will have a chance to make the team’s final roster, especially because of the position he plays. Robertson can function as an undersized edge rusher, an inside linebacker, or a 4-3 outside linebacker depending on the situation. In all likelihood for the Redskins, Robertson would be a versatile depth player who would play a big role on special teams, much like their third-string rush linebacker Chris Carter did last year. That would probably be the ideal fit for the Texas Tech product."

If Robertson isn’t the man who gets the nod as a backup, keep an eye on Vontae Diggs as a guy to watch. Still, I think it’s far more likely that Diggs will be a practice squad candidate and he is still behind Robertson because the latter is so good on special teams.
