NFL roster cuts are coming up soon, and the Washington Redskins are going to be facing some tough choices. Here’s a look at some of the unheralded candidates who are potential dark horses to make the team’s final roster.

The NFL’s busiest day of the year, in terms of transactions, comes on cut day every year. Across the league, 32 teams trim their 90-man rosters to 53 ahead of the season. In the process, 1,184 players are cut and 320 are later signed to the practice squad. Every year, fans and analysts alike try to predict who will be on the 53-man roster to start the season. And rarely, if ever, is there a perfect roster.

The Redskins are among the teams that will have to make cuts, and while it may look easy to predict which players they are going to keep, there are still a handful of spots that are undecided.

There always seems to be one or two surprise keepers for each NFL team. Last year, the Redskins chose to keep Stefan McClure on their active roster as a backup safety. Nobody saw that coming and while his stay didn’t last that long, the team still made the choice to keep him over some other veterans and young talent. This year, they could make a similar decision.

The Redskins have the deepest roster they’ve seen in quite a long time, so they are going to be faced with some extremely difficult decisions. With that in mind, here’s a look at three roster dark horses who actually might have a chance to squeeze onto the 53-man roster like McClure did last season.
