The Washington Redskins are continuing to make roster moves ahead of the fourth week of the preseason. Now, they have a new quarterback on their roster in Connor Jessop.

The fourth preseason game isn’t one that is going to see a lot of action from the top players on the Redskins team. After three weeks of preparation, the fourth preseason game is usually reserved for the players on the back end of the roster to see some time and duke it out for positions on the practice squad. It appears that the Redskins will be utilizing that strategy this season, and they made a roster move to back that up.

On Sunday, it was announced that the team would be signing quarterback Connor Jessop to the 53-man roster, per the team’s official site. Jessop played his college ball at Shepherd University and was a standout there, finishing fourth in the Harlon Hill (the D2 Heisman) voting in 2017. He will serve as the backup behind Kevin Hogan for the final preseason contest.

In a corresponding roster move, the Redskins waived wide receiver Allenzae Staggers who they had signed earlier last week.

Jessop’s signing is a nice story, as he was a great college player and is a native of Ashburn, Virginia. That said, he won’t be making the roster and seems to be just a camp body. The Skins needed to add someone to play in the game in case Hogan gets hurt, so Jessop seems to be a smart addition. And he definitely deserves the chance to see some NFL preseason action.

It will be interesting to see if Jessop can get some action and to see what he can do. He’s probably not going to push for a practice squad spot, but you never know what could happen. At the very least, having him on the squad as a potential backup is an interesting move and he could provide some excitement if he finds success.

Overall, this roster move is just an exchange of two guys on the very back end of the roster. Outside of this Thursday’s game, not much is going to be impacted by this move.
