No. 5 – OLB Pete Robertson

The Redskins could keep four edge rushers, or they could keep five. It all seems dependent on Pete Robertson‘s performance, at this point.

Robertson, a 2016 undefeated free agent, has shined throughout the offseason at the position of edge rusher. He’s situated safely behind the first four players on the depth chart, and Vontae Diggs has been making a run for his spot.

But despite mounting odds, Robertson still has a degree of control, in regards to how he enters the regular season.

As one of the team’s primary depth linebackers, Robertson should get some playing time with first-string and second-string players in Friday’s game. The Broncos’ offensive line, although much-improved from last year, is still an unpredictable unit, and a perfect test for an unpredictable player like Robertson.

The biggest knock on Robertson is that he has the athleticism, but he doesn’t have the fundamental tools to be anything more than a special teamer. So far this summer, we’ve only heard about the athleticism. Robertson needs to show he has more than that.
