The Washington Redskins are going to be looking to avenge a disappointing preseason Week 1 loss to the Patriots. In Week 2, they get a matchup with the New York Jets, and there should be some good matchups to watch in the Redskins vs. Jets contest.

Though the Redskins lost their first preseason contest to the Patriots, they still had a lot of positives to take out of the game. Their second string looked very good, and they took a 17-0 lead into the half against a Bill Belichick coached team. They may not have finished, but they had third-stringers on the field after halftime while Belichick left his second string out there. So, the loss wasn’t entirely a collapse. And after all, it is the preseason.

That said, it is nice to win in the preseason, and the Redskins should have a chance to do that in Week 2 against the Jets. Granted, the Jets played very well in their first week of the preseason, and they are looking much better than they did last season. They still aren’t better than the Redskins, but they will certainly provide a test.

Part of the test will be the matchups within the game. Matchups are important in any NFL game, but in the preseason, they are even more critical as they can have a big impact on the players that are engaged in position battles. Often, winning a matchup in one week can be the difference between winning or losing a roster spot.

The battles in this game will end up being critical to the future of the Redskins and the Jets. Here’s a look at the top five matchups to watch in the second week of the preseason.
