Redskins Roster Battle: Re-evaluating the WRs after Robert Davis’ injury
The Washington Redskins suffered another blow to their offense when second-year receiver Robert Davis suffered a season-ending leg injury. However, they have some young depth at receiver that should be able to replace the Georgia State product.
It’s never ideal to have any players go down in the preseason. Of course, it’s even worse when it happens on back-to-back days. After seeing rookie fan favorite Derrius Guice go down with an ACL tear, receiver Robert Davis was believed to have suffered the same fate in practice. However, it ended up being worse.
Davis ended up actually breaking his leg and suffering damage to ligaments in his knee, including his LCL. He will be out for the season, and the big, athletic receiver is facing a tough road to recovery. He could be back in 2019, but for the upcoming season, the Redskins are going to have a replacement, as it seemed that Davis had a chance to win the No. 5 receiver job for the team.
Backup receiver may not seem like a very important position, but the fact is that the Redskins don’t have a lot of proven talent in the starting lineup. Josh Doctson flashed in his second season but was inconsistent. Paul Richardson signed a big deal with the Redskins, but he hasn’t been able to stay healthy consistently. Jamison Crowder is a steady man in the slot, but he needs help around him to succeed.
Should Doctson or Richardson be ineffective, Washington will have to look to their backups to help pick up the slack. Thus, Davis’ loss will hurt a little. Still, the team has some talent at the receiver position, and here’s a look at what top backups could replace Davis for this season.
