Redskins offense vs. Jets defense

The New York Jets’ defense is better than their reputation suggests. Leonard Williams is a solid defensive lineman (although he stood no chance against Trent Williams in training camp), and Nathan Shepherd and Foley Fatukasi give the Jets depth on their defensive front. Avery Williamson is a borderline-Pro Bowl linebacker signed from the Tennessee Titans, and the secondary is quietly solid, with players like Trumaine Johnson and Jamal Adams bolstering the ranks.

The Jets defense is secretly alright. But are they good enough to compete with Washington’s offense?

The Redskins’ offense undoubtedly lost an electric player in rookie running back Derrius Guice. But the Redskins offense found a way to move the football last year, with a plethora of injuries on top of an ineffective running game. The Jets pose a threat, but the Redskins have the weapons to give them some trouble.

That said, the Redskins likely won’t give their starters much time in Week 2, especially after injury stole one of the team’s more exciting offensive players in Week 1. But despite this, there are a number of enticing weapons in the wings, including Kapri Bibbs, Byron Marshall, Trey Quinn, Cam Sims, and Jeremy Sprinkle. These guys aren’t world beaters, but the Jets’ defense is a good test for them. This is a game in which bubble players on the offense will both be tested, but given opportunities to make plays.
