The Redskins have some sleepers fighting for roster spots. Here are three guys to watch during the 2018 preseason.

Most people see the preseason as the most boring month of the NFL season. The starters only get a handful of snaps, and the players on the field have names not many people will recognize. What most people don’t consider is that these four games might decide the future for all of those lesser-known players. This is the opportunity for those players to make themselves known, and maybe even win themselves a job.

However, only a few will come out on top. These are the Redskins that have already shown great potential, but they will need to shine on the field in order to stay on the team.

CB Danny Johnson: Johnson played college football at Southern University. After going undrafted during the 2018 NFL draft, Johnson was signed by the Redskins. Johnson has had an impressive camp so far and has shown that he might have a shot at the 53-man roster. The injury to Joshua Holsey has opened up a path for a player like Johnson to work his way onto the cornerback depth chart. The team should give him plenty of snaps over the next four weeks; he just needs to make the most of them.

OLB Pete Robertson: Robertson was signed by the Redskins after the end of the 2016 season. He was on the practice squad for most of the 2017 season and was called up to the active roster a couple times. In a total of four games in 2017, Robertson recorded only two tackles.

Robertson has been given plenty of run so far in training camp and has shown improvement. The outside linebacker position is mostly unproven behind Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith, as Ryan Anderson showed practically nothing as a rookie in 2017 and Pernell McPhee has an injury history. If Robertson can make a few plays this preseason, he might be able to sneak onto the roster.

WR Maurice HarrisHarris joined the team in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. He has spent most of his time on the practice squad but has been called to the active roster a few times. Over the last two seasons, Harris has been active for 16 games and has totaled 12 receptions, 128 yards, and one touchdown. His best moment as a Redskin so far was the one-handed catch for a touchdown against the Vikings last season.

With a lot of unproven players at the wide receiver position, Harris has the opportunity to compete for the fourth spot on the depth chart. Due to lingering issues with the health of Josh Doctson, Harris will be given plenty of opportunities this preseason to earn his spot on the roster.

These three players should get plenty of time on the field over the next four weeks. Every snap will count and every play they make will be another step closer to achieving their dreams. Keep an eye on them, as they may be wearing the burgundy and gold come the season opener.
