Our recent Redskins mailbag was overflowing, so here are the rest of the questions after Sunday’s mailbag!

The preseason is not just a couple of days away, and Redskins fans are getting excited. All of the questions we have will soon be answered on the field when real NFL (preseason) football begins!

Of course, we still have to wait a bit before that happens. So, for the time being, we’ll answer the questions that you have in our latest edition of the Riggo’s Rag Redskins Mailbag. Let’s get right to it with a couple of questions about the offense.

Two offensive depth players

Joe KJeremy Sprinkle – where we at with him? Also, WR Davis showing enough to get some reps at No. 4?

Sprinkle seems to be well on his way to earning the No. 3 tight end spot on the Redskins roster. He has a large gap in talent separating him from the other potential roster candidates, and it seems like Sprinkle will occupy a key role with the Redskins.

This year, expect to see Sprinkle used as a blocking tight end. He’s not going to get a ton of looks as a receiver as long as Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis both stay healthy, but he could come in towards the goal line as a blocker and may even see some time at fullback. He’ll probably play special teams as well. It seems possible that Sprinkle will continue developing as a backup and could eventually be given a chance to prove himself down the line.

As for Robert Davis, he should get a chance to earn that No. 4 receiver role. That said, he’s battling with Brian Quick, Maurice Harris, and rookie Trey Quinn for reps. Harris has looked great in camp so far, so it seems that he might be the favorite right now to earn the No. 4 spot. Of course, all of that can change if he struggles in the preseason, but that’s the way it is trending now.

I think that Davis’ mix of size, speed, and athletic ability will land him a role on the Redskins roster. I’m not sure if it will be the No. 4 spot, but he has flashed potential at times. If the receiving corps wasn’t so deep, I would be more apt to trust him. But as it stands, there’s too much competition to rule him the favorite for the No. 4 job.
