It’s time for another Riggo’s Rag mailbag! We answer five questions about the Washington Redskins and their team in this one covering topics all over the field.

With training camp hitting full speed, the Redskins have a lot of questions surrounding them. While there is a lot of optimism surrounding this season, there are still some things the team has to sort out.

We know that you fans have a lot of questions, so we did a mailbag for this week. We got so many responses that if you don’t see your question answered here, we can assure you that it will be answered later in the week. But let’s get started, first with a question about the cornerback battle.

Cornerback battle question

Ernest B: Should Scandrick backup Moreau as the slot and Dunbar the #2 opposite Norman? Both of them have had more press due to the plays they have made.

It might be premature to officially list Orlando Scandrick as the backup to Fabian Moreau for this season. Scandrick was signed to provide a veteran presence, man the nickel, and he might even win that No. 2 role, which is how he was utilized to start camp.

That said, it seems highly likely that Quinton Dunbar, after a terrific start to camp, is well on his way to earning the starting job across from Norman. Dunbar, entering his fourth season, has been one of the stars of camp so far, and he seems to be making the leap in his first year as a potential starter. He did come into the league as a receiver, so his development might be accelerated with another year of working with Torrian Gray.

Regarding Moreau, the second-year man has flashed at times during camp. On Day 3, he put together a great performance with Scandrick receiving a maintenance day. If he continues to outplay Scandrick when the veteran misses time, Moreau could eventually push for that role as the top slot corner. Still, it’s premature to declare him the winner.

If the season were to start today, I still think that Scandrick would hold onto the nickel role. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Moreau lock down the nickel role after the team’s Week 4 bye. The Redskins have some intriguing talent at corner, and it appears that they are in good shape thanks to their young budding stars.
