Everybody stay calm.

It hasn’t been a storied career for the Washington Redskins 2016 first-round pick Josh Doctson thus far. After missing his rookie season with a nagging Achilles injury, Doctson made modest improvements in 2017, going for over 500 yards and six touchdowns as the team’s No. 1 receiver.

With only two years in the NFL, Doctson is already nearing 26 years of age, so the proverbial clock is most certainly ticking. He hasn’t been fully healthy for much of his career. This offseason, progress seemed to be on the horizon. Now, just days before training camp, there is another incident to monitor. But there’s reason to believe it isn’t anything serious.

The TCU product underwent a minor procedure on his leg earlier this week. Paul Woody of the Richmond Times-Dispatch described the nature of the procedure in a recent article. Here’s what he had to say:

"Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson had what the team termed a “precautionary” MRI on his leg Monday. A team official said Doctson, entering his third season, is expected to take part in conditioning drills when players report to training camp Wednesday in Richmond."

Woody describes the procedure as “precautionary”, and notes that the Redskins still expect Doctson to take part in training camp from the moment it kicks off. The team is being safe, as they should be, with a first-round pick who’s seen many opportunities taken away from him as a consequence of recurring injuries.

There’s still time left before the real football starts; time that the Redskins will use carefully, to keep healthy players on the field, and to work ailing players back into the game. Doctson now falls into the latter category with his MRI. It’s notable that they took an action to ensure his health, but also notable is the acknowledgement that Doctson is expected to be a participant from the get-go.

Next: What will the Redskins identity be in 2018?

Details are fairly sparse, at the moment. Here at Riggo’s Rag, we’ll keep you in the loop with any updates on the Redskins as training camp unfolds.
