Barry Cofield, a former Washington Redskins nose tackle, was arrested on Tuesday for multiple charges. Here are the details of the arrest.

Barry Cofield is a name that many Washington Redskins fans have not heard in a while. Cofield was with the team from 2011-2014 after signing a free agent deal to come over from the New York Giants. In his four seasons in Washington, Cofield served as a solid, do-it-all type of nose tackle, logging 100 total tackles and nine sacks in 56 games.

Since Cofield’s departure, the Redskins have had a lot of issues at the nose tackle position. However, those pale in comparison to the trouble that Cofield got himself into on Tuesday night.

Cofield was arrested in Florida for a DUI, heroin possession, and eluding a police officer., according to Sports Illustrated’s Jenna West. These are the details of the arrest (also per West).

"At 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Cofield’s car was stopped on an interstate off ramp, according to a police report obtained by Sports Illustrated from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Cofield was “passed out” in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake, as the traffic light cycled through. After Cofield awoke and police instructed him to put his car in park, he accelerated through the light.Cofield evaded a pursuing officer and swerved between lanes but did not exceed the speed limit, according to the police report.A second police car blocked Cofield’s path and he crashed into it before exiting his car and being handcuffed, according to the report."

The report would go on to state that Cofield had two bags of a “red, powdery substance” in his pocket. And per the report, the substance tested positive for heroin.

This obviously isn’t good news to hear. It’s clear that Cofield is dealing with some major problems and needs to get some help. Hopefully, this situation will serve as a wake-up call, and he will be able to get his life back on track.
