A position battle is both a blessing and a curse.

On one hand, you know that your team is deep at a given position when there are several players who could take a substantial role. But on the flip side, there is some uncertainty surrounding the  lineup, and what it may look like in the future.

The Washington Redskins have several of these position battles strewn about their 90-man roster. At some positions, roles are wide open for those who step up to the challenge. It’s anyone’s guess who the No. 2 cornerback might be when the regular season starts. Many believe Quinton Dunbar earned the slot with his play last season, but Orlando Scandrick and Fabian Moreau can’t be ruled out yet.

While such battles may seem more pivotal, there are others that, although under the radar, are just as important. On the defensive line, five spots are seemingly set, but it remains to be seen who will round out the rotation behind Tim Settle and Anthony Lanier. Stacy McGee and Ziggy Hood are the first two candidates that come to mind, but Phil Taylor, among others, is a player who shouldn’t be ruled out.

Perhaps no one should be ruled out this early in the offseason. There’s plenty of time for players to show their worth, and in practice, on an equal playing field, everyone will have an opportunity to shine. The nature of competition allows it to happen.

Competition is, again, the subject of the Riggo’s Rag Podcast today. Last week, we focused on position battles at cornerback, wide receiver, and running back, and today, we shift the focus, dwelling on left guard, linebacker, and the team’s newly revamped defensive line. Is there anyone that the team would choose over Shawn Lauvao at left guard? Who might back up Zach Brown and Mason Foster at linebacker? How will the Washington Redskins’ new defensive line shake up? We cover all that, and more, right here!

Just like last time, it’s Jacob Camenker, Nathan Britton, and I sitting down to discuss all things Washington Redskins. Camenker has a bold, maybe not-so-bold idea for the team’s starting left guard situation, and Nathan Britton provides reasoning for why Stacy McGee might get the nod over Ziggy Hood on the final roster. Those are just a couple points that we take a look at!
