It’s officially draft season, and fans are eagerly awaiting what the Washington Redskins will do. According to a rumor from Chris Cooley, the team may want both Da’Ron Payne and Derrius Guice.

A lot of the 2018 NFL Draft season has been spent debating what the Redskins should do in the first round of the draft. There are, generally speaking, two camps. One who believes that the Redskins should grab a nose tackle with their first pick, and the other that believes a running back is the way to go. Intermixed in there is a group of believers who think that Minkah Fitzpatrick could make it to that spot. While that may seem like wishful thinking, it is still definitely a possibility.

Among these groups, the leading nose tackle candidate tends to be Da’Ron Payne and apple of the running back group’s eye is Derrius Guice. For a long time, it has seemed like the Redskins may have to choose between one of these two players with their first round pick. But now, there is a rumor floating around that may render that point moot.

On Twitter, Burgundy Blog quoted Chris Cooley as saying that the Redskins would like to land both Payne and Guice, and they would have to trade to get both.

NBC Sports Washington’s Rich Tandler reacted to the news and outlined a more clear vision of what those plans might be.

This may be a bit far-fetched, but it’s not entirely impossible.

To land both of these players would be a huge achievement for the Redskins. It would fill two of their biggest needs with two players who are in the top two at their respective positions during the 2018 NFL Draft. Still, pulling off this sort of haul in the first two rounds would be difficult, and wouldn’t come without costs.
