NFL Mock Draft 7.6: Round 7 of the 2018 NFL Draft
By Ian Cummings
Picks 235-238
235. New York Jets (via SEA): S Godwin Igwebuike, Northwestern
Northwestern’s Godwin Igwebuike is a raw prospect at the safety position, but he has the traits to be a steady contributor in multiple roles at the NFL level. However, he lacks the polish other prospects have, and this could push him down a bit. With this NFL Draft pick, the New York Jets get Igwebuike as valuable depth behind starting safeties Jamaal Adams and Marcus Maye.
236: Dallas Cowboys: DT Kahlil McKenzie, Tennessee
The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of help on the defensive line, and while Kahlil McKenzie might not give them the help they need, he certainly gives them the best shot at this point int he NFL Draft. McKenzie has good size, standing at 6-foot-5, 310. He could be better suited for a 3-4 scheme, serving as a hybrid between a nose tackle and a defensive tackle. But the Cowboys simply want a big body to put in the middle, and for that purpose, McKenzie can convert. He needs time to develop. But the potential is there.
237. Detroit Lions: OG Maea Teuhema, Southeastern Louisiana
At this point in the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have solved a lot of their own problems. One need that remains, albeit a relatively small one, is the need for depth on the offensive line. The Lions solve this by drafting former LSU and current Southeastern Louisiana guard Maea Teuhema.
238. Arizona Cardinals (via BAL): EDGE Ade Aruna, Tulane
Ade Aruna tested well at the NFL Combine, and although he may not be the most polished prospect, he offers quite a bit for a Cardinals team looking for depth and future contribution.
Aruna, 6-foot-6, 265, has very impressive size, as well as the burst to use that size. He logged a 4.60 40-yard dash. For a player his size, that doesn’t happen often.
Aruna still needs to learn how to use his speed to create power and leverage, but the rookie will have a promising NFL career ahead of him, and as far as his value goes here in Round 7 of the NFL Draft, it could very well skyrocket.
