Ryan Grant initially signed a four year, $29 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. Now, a failed physical will make him available once again.

On Wednesday, the Washington Redskins thought they lost Ryan Grant to the Baltimore Ravens in free agency. The Ravens had given Grant a four year, $29 million deal with $14.5 million in guarantees. At a glance, it was an overpay for the solid receiver, but it’s still one that he could have lived up to.

However, on Thursday, the deal was never signed. As the day went on, there was speculation that there could have been a problem. And indeed there was.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Grant deal fell through after an issue came up in Grant’s physical. Because of this, the deal was voided and never signed.

Now that Grant is available again, there could be interest in him returning to Washington. While they added Paul Richardson in free agency, the team could use some depth. Brian Quick was retained as a potential No. 4 receiver, but he didn’t see much action at all last season. So, it might make sense to bring back Grant.

Grant did have a career year in 2018, so bringing him back to the team that he had success with would definitely make sense. At the same time, it’s worth noting that Grant’s success did come with Kirk Cousins at the helm. So, perhaps a trip to the Vikings could be in order if he doesn’t go to Baltimore or Washington.

One thing is certain. The Redskins would be happy to have the Grant back at the right price. The coaching staff loves him, and his teammates have spoken highly of him. Giving him $29 million and $14.5 million in guarantees isn’t realistic for the Redskins, but if they could bring him back at $5 million a year, provided that he’s healthy, that could work out well.

As it stands, nothing is guaranteed with Grant. But, he’s on the market again. And for that reason, he should be watched, as the Redskins showed interest in retaining him. Perhaps after his experience with Baltimore, he will be happy to return to D.C.
