The Washington Redskins could stand to add more talent at the receiver position. According to sources, they have interest in Allen Robinson and Paul Richardson.

Last offseason, the Washington Redskins lost two talented receivers in Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson. The duo had been 1,000 yard receivers in the previous season, and losing them in free agency was tough for them. However, there was some hope that their replacements, Josh Doctson and Terrelle Pryor, would be able to pick up where they left off.

While Doctson had some solid moments in his first full season in the league, Pryor struggled immensely before hitting Injured Reserve midway through the season. Pryor will need to be replaced, as he was on a one-year deal, so the team will turn to the free agent market to find some solutions.

According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, Allen Robinson could end up being a fit for the team. Robinson had a career year in 2015, catching 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns, but he regressed a bit in 2016 before tearing his ACL in the 2017 opener. Still, he has No. 1 receiver potential as Finlay pointed out in his piece.

"A physical player capable of beating press coverage and winning at the line of scrimmage, a lack of top-line speed didn’t slow down Robinson in Jacksonville. Listening to Jay Gruden last week in Indianapolis, it seemed like there was a spot for Robinson.“Losing DeSean last year had a little bit of an impact but not as much as people probably want to think,” Gruden said. “I like all-purpose guys, guys who can do multiple things because at the end of the day you’re going to have to play multiple positions in this offense.”"

Finlay would go on to discuss how Robinson has size, can be a downfield threat, and is also a capable blocker. He truly is a No. 1 receiver and has proven to be that in the past. The one question will be about whether or not he will still have his explosive speed and athleticism after suffering an ACL tear last year. That said, he did that so early in the season, that he likely will have had enough time to recover fully by the start of the 2018 campaign.

The Jaguars officially elected not to use the franchise tag on Robinson, so he will end up hitting the free agent market unless the two parties agree on a deal before March 12. Given the plethora of players that stepped up at receiver for the Jaguars last year, there’s a chance that letting Robinson walk could make sense.

In addition to the team’s interest in Robinson, ESPN’s John Keim is reporting that Paul Richardson could be on the team’s short list as well. Richardson is a speed threat coming off the best season of his career in which he posted career highs in receptions (44), yardage (703), and touchdowns (6). He would add a much needed deep threat to the team’s roster, and would certainly be a solid option as a speed receiver. He could end up being a similar player to Tyreek Hill when paired with Alex Smith.

Overall, it makes sense for the Redskins to have interest in these receivers, as they are potential No. 1 options who at the worst, would be solid No. 2 guys. It will be interesting to see how the team plans to attack free agency, but expect them to go after a young receiver, provided that the price is right.
