Washington Redskins Dan Snyder makes Forbes richest owners list
By Ian Cummings
He may not know how to win, but Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder knows how to turn a profit.
Under the ownership of Dan Snyder, success has been a rarity for the Redskins. As a result, Snyder and Bruce Allen, his second in command, have been under fire from fans almost every season. And with good reason.
In almost twenty years, Snyder has failed to put together a winning franchise, despite having the resources to do so. But for some owners, winning isn’t everything. Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes Magazine recently released his list of the wealthiest owners in all of sports, and Snyder was able to secure a spot on the list, coming in at No. 41, his wealth amounting to around $2.3 billion.
Snyder, for all his financial success, has not received the same bountiful gains in his football pursuits. To provide a comparison, Snyder went 7-9 this year. Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie made the list, coming in one spot behind Snyder, with around $2 billion. His Philadelphia Eagles went 13-3 this year, securing the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff bracket.

In two weeks, they’ll face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52.
But, hey, at least we beat the Eagles in something, right?
Perhaps the oft-criticized owner can employ some of his economic and financial tactics in his management of the team’s assets, as he does with other business aspects. There have been too many times in recent memory where Snyder all but ignored the standard principles of economics in his dealings.
Much like the woes on the field, fans aren’t too pleased with the business ventures of Snyder’s enterprise. Ticket prices have been soaring as of late. Last year’s preseason ticket prices sparked outrage among the fanbase, shocked at the apparent money leeching even from the year’s most insignificant games.
Nevertheless, Snyder’s lackluster performance won’t be met with an evaluation from oversight. Snyder is the oversight. The only way a change in leadership will occur is if Snyder steps down, and he doesn’t appear willing to do so. For the foreseeable future, winning with Snyder is the ultimate goal. And it could be even harder than it sounds.
$2.6 billion may sound like a lot of money, but in fact, over half of the NFL’s owners are more wealthy than Snyder. Owners that came ahead of Snyder include 0-16 Browns owner Jimmy Haslam (No. 25), Bob McNair of the Houston Texans (No. 21), New York Giants owner Joan Tisch (No. 19) and Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys (No. 11). The wealthiest NFL owner, Seahawks Paul Allen, came in at No. 2 with $20.6 billion to his name.

In a sense, Snyder even has work to do in the financials department. But at least he has a little more than a cent to his name.
