Chris Thompson’s season may have met an untimely end due to a devastating knee injury, but you won’t see the Redskins’ running back hanging his head.

The Washington Redskins knew the offense wouldn’t be the same without Chris Thompson.

Everyone could tell he was out for the rest of the season the moment his knee rolled between two Saints’ defenders in the fourth quarter of an ill-fated Week 11 game. But the damage done to the Redskins’ offense by that injury was almost as bad as the damage to Thompson’s knee itself.

The offense lacked a true playmaker in the weeks that followed that unfortunate event, and for the rest of the season, not one running back stepped up and provided the consistent impact that Chris Thompson managed to give the team.

Thompson will be the most important running back for the Redskins in 2018. He is the only true stable constant in his role as the scat back, and now, in the offseason, Thompson has time to fully devote his energy to his recovery.

How is the recovery going, you ask? Well, Thompson recently provided an update. And to say the least… it’s ba-aa-a-a-ad.

Chris Thompson deserves to be the G.O.A.T for this tweet (I know, I know. It’s a lamb. Let me live, people), but almost as convincing in the G.O.A.T. argument is his play on the field. When healthy in 2017, Thompson was a dynamic threat both running and receiving the football. He gave the team a unique element on the offensive side of the ball, and when he was lost to injury, a mammoth void appeared.

In 2018, the Redskins will likely tailor their offense around Thompson, as he will be one of only a few pieces returning in their previous roles. The Kirk Cousins situation is still flush with uncertainty, and the receiving core, as well as the tight end group, needs a new look. Even the offensive line will have some moving parts, as Spencer Long’s contract situation remains up in the air.

In an offseason where nothing is guaranteed, one thing is certain. Chris Thompson is on the road to recovery. He’s in good spirits, still possessing his sense of humor, and in time, he should be one hundred percent. Trust me. Ewe don’t need to worry.
