Report: Kirk Cousins would consider playing for Browns if given the chance
Kirk Cousins isn’t ruling any options out as he’s set to hit the open market this offseason. According to a report, Cousins would even consider playing for the Cleveland Browns.
With Kirk Cousins becoming a free agent again this offseason, the Washington Redskins are left with a choice. They can either franchise tag Cousins for a third consecutive year, a hefty $34.5 million price tag, throw the transition tag on him, a lesser value but he negotiate elsewhere, sign him to a long-term deal, or let him walk. None of the options seem to be overwhelmingly appealing, though having a fallback plan if he does walk is necessary to suffer the blow.
Well, if Cousins does hit the open market, the Cleveland Browns will likely have a high level of interest in him. Cleveland has been searching for a true franchise quarterback for nearly two decades and they’ve not yet found him. From Tim Couch to Johnny Manziel to even giving RG3 a run, the team needs an answer Cousins could provide them that.
It was always expected that Cousins would want to suit up for a contender if given the opportunity. After all, why leave an organization marred with dysfunction in the front office to go to another organization with similar issues? Well, apparently that’s not the case.

According to Kyle Kelly of Browns Wire, Alfred Breer of the MMQB appeared on 92.3 The Fan and said that Cousins would seriously consider playing for the Browns. You can see the Tweet for yourself here.
Laugh all you want, but it’s a possibility. The Browns are the type of team that could be desperate enough to throw a massive contract in Cousins’ direction. Armed with cap space and so many picks in the early rounds of the 2018 draft, including two top five picks, they may actually be in great position to do that. They can fill out the roster with young talent while paying Cousins north of $25 million annually to ensure that they have a solid quarterback. Would it work? Maybe. But it’s definitely better than risking it all on another young flop for the team.
As for Cousins, this move wouldn’t put him on an immediate contender, but it would give him a chance to resurrect the Browns. No quarterback has been able to do that yet, and if he does it, he will become an immediate legend. In other words, get Cleveland to the playoffs, and he’s probably a shoo-in for the ring of honor. Also, Cousins grew up in Illinois and went to college in Michigan. So, perhaps being closer to home and making a boatload of money will end up swaying him to give the Browns a chance.
