The Redskins will close out their season in East Rutherford today, in a game that they should control from the start.

It’s almost time for the speculation about where the Redskins are headed in 2018 and beyond. Almost time. But not quite yet. The Redskins still have one game left to play: Their Week 17 matchup against the New York Giants.

The Redskins want to look back on this season as a step in the right direction. After all, that’s what it was. The team got better as a whole. Young players stepped up and played key roles in tough situations. Newly acquired players made significant impacts. And despite being hampered by injuries all throughout the year, the team remained competitive. In the end, the problems mounting were too much to handle. And yet, here they are, one game away from .500. That is a feat in itself.

Jay Gruden and his squad should be playing to win today. And there’s a good chance they won’t have to play their best to achieve such an outcome. The Giants are a mess this year, and coming into the final week, they’ve stumbled to a 2-13 record, after going 11-5 in 2016. They’ve lost their general manager and head coach over the course of the last few weeks, and in the past seven days alone, they’ve benched one starting tackle and released another. Their players have given up, and they’re ready to be done. The Redskins have the motivation to win, and that should be enough.

The game will take place at 1:00 this afternoon in MetLife Stadium, broadcast live on Fox Sports. Sam Rosen will handle the play-by-play, with Matt Millen taking up color commentary duties. Don’t have the game playing in your area? Don’t worry! You can stream it live with your mobile device on NFL Game Pass or FuboTV.
