The Washington Redskins are taking on the Denver Broncos in Week 16 of the 2017 NFL season. Comment on all the action here!

This week is an important one for both the Redskins and the Broncos. For Washington, this is another chance for Jay Gruden to state his case as the future coach for the team. While he inked an extension last offseason, there have been some calling for him to go because of his lack of ability to motivate the team in big games. Still, the team is sitting at 6-8 despite having 20 players on IR, so blaming him for the season’s failure isn’t entirely logical.

A win against the Broncos, a tough opponent, would move the Redskins to 7-8 and that would virtually guarantee that Gruden would be back for another season. Barring a change of heart in the front office, the team appears ready to roll with him for at least one more season. And, who knows? Perhaps Gruden could have led the team to the playoffs had it not been for the multitude of critical injuries.

As for the Broncos, first year head coach Vance Joseph is surprisingly already on the hot seat. The Broncos failed to live up to expectations this year, but that was largely due to the fact that they don’t have a starting caliber quarterback. That said, Broncos fans are still used to high levels of success, so seeing the team flop and sit at 5-9 has been a bit of a shock. Blaming Joseph doesn’t make much sense though, as he’s not the one who failed to find a quarterback for the team.

Speaking of quarterbacks, some are pegging this game as an audition for Kirk Cousins. It’s sensible that the Broncos would be interested in the Michigan State product if he does hit the free agent market given their major need at the position. With the roster the Broncos currently have, Cousins would give them a chance for a Super Bowl run and he would be a huge upgrade over Brock Osweiler. But all of that is speculation.
