Redskins Challenge: Morgan Moses, it’s time to “Put up your Dukes”
Earlier in the offseason, the Redskins made Morgan Moses the second highest-paid right tackle in the NFL. While battling injuries all season, Moses is proving that he’s worth every penny.
Injuries have unquestionably played a role in the Redskins 6-8 record. The unit that has been the most affected is without question the offensive line. Center Spencer Long and left guard Shawn Lauvao were placed on injured reserve earlier in the season. Pro Bowlers Trent Williams and Brandon Scherff have missed a combined six games despite earning those honors. Williams has been dealing with a knee injury all season and is scheduled to have surgery to repair his kneecap. Despite battling severe ankle sprains all season, right tackle Morgan Moses has started every game in 2017.
Through fifteen weeks, Moses has appeared on the injury report a whopping eleven times, per the team’s official website. In the first meeting against the Cowboys, Moses prevented a blocked field goal return for a touchdown, putting his toughness on display. He was carted off the field against the Cowboys in the Week 13 matchup that all but ended Washington’s playoff chances. The following week, he started against the Los Angeles Chargers. Another testament to his undying resolve.
It has been a underachieving type of year for the Redskins’ opponent on Sunday. After starting 3-1 the Broncos went on an eight game losing streak before winning their last two games. Denver’s defense is statistically among the best in the league yardage wise. They’re first in total yards allowed, second in passing yards surrendered, and fourth against the run.
The Redskins offense appears to be in store for another rough afternoon. Last year, Kirk Cousins was sacked 23 times. This season, he’s been on the receiving end of 38 sacks. Defensive end Von Miller leads Denver with ten sacks on the season. With Washington down three of their original five starting offensive linemen, they’ll need big games from Scherff and right tackle Morgan Moses.
Next: 3 keys to victory for the Redskins vs. the Broncos
It’s somewhat insulting that Morgan Moses is even a topic of discussion. Perhaps no player on the team has demonstrated as much toughness as Moses this season, besides his counterpart at tackle, Trent Williams. The Redskins can be assured that Moses will continue being the consummate professional. Nevertheless, Morgan Moses, I challenge you to “Put up your Dukes” maintain that level of toughness, and dominate Von Miller and the Broncos defense.
