The Washington Redskins have had a down year, but they still were able to put a few players in the Pro Bowl. Notably, Trent Williams will be heading there for a sixth straight year.

The Pro Bowl rosters for 2018 have officially been announced. For the second straight season, the Redskins see multiple starters on the offensive side of the ball make the All-Star game while one defensive player has made it in this year. All three candidates this year were definitely deserving of the nomination.

The three Redskins are sending to Orlando are offensive tackle Trent Williams, offensive guard Brandon Scherff, and rush linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. The most deserving of the group is Williams who is going to his sixth straight Pro Bowl.

This season, Williams has performed at an extremely high level despite dealing with a knee injury that would keep many players on the sideline. He has played in 10 out of 14 games and he has only allowed two sacks despite the injury. Williams definitely deserved the honor given the toughness he has showed this year.

For the second straight year, Scherff went to the Pro Bowl alongside Williams. Scherff, now in his third year out of Iowa, has developed into one of the better guards in the league. In 2017, Scherff has only committed one penalty and he has allowed just 2.5 sacks. Scherff has been responsible for some of the blocking improvements on the line in regards to the run game. He should only get better and he may be in the Pro Bowl for the better part of the next decade.

On the defensive side, it was nice to see Kerrigan get some recognition. This is only his third Pro Bowl nod in seven league seasons, and the pass rusher is perennially underrated. He is one of the league’s most consistently productive players at his position and his relentless motor is what has led him to average over 9.5 sacks a year during his career. Kerrigan absolutely deserves this accolade, and probably should have more under his belt than he already has.

In terms of snubs, there weren’t too many this season for the Redskins. One could argue that Kirk Cousins had a case for the Pro Bowl, but it’s clear that he wasn’t a top three NFC quarterback. The biggest snub may actually have been Kendall Fuller.

The second-year slot man has been terrific in coverage this year, and Pro Football Focus has him graded as the No. 8 overall corner in the league. Unfortunately, he had to compete with other strong candidates like Xavier Rhodes and Marshon Lattimore for the spots. Fuller may make an appearance at some point, but for now, he’s still an up-and-comer.

The Redskins should be proud of the trio of players that they got into the Pro Bowl. They are three very solid veteran players who are among the best at their position. They absolutely deserved the honors that they got.
