Redskins linebacker Zach Brown has fought through injuries for a good chunk of this season. He will miss his first game in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Washington Redskins are currently sitting at 5-8, and their 2017 campaign will soon come to a close. It’s practically impossible for them to make the playoffs given the strength of the NFC, and as the season closes, the Redskins are going to have to give some of their injured players some extra rest down the stretch to ensure they are healthy for 2018.

In Week 15, the team has already declared two players out while seven are questionable. Rookie Montae Nicholson is set to miss his fourth straight game since suffering a concussion, and their caution with him is hardly surprising. However, first year Redskin Zach Brown is going to be sitting out for the first time this season due to a plethora of injuries. He is battling an illness, an Achilles injury that has bugged him in recent weeks, and toe and hip issues.

Brown’s absence is hardly surprising at this point in the season. He had been playing through injuries in recent weeks and while he was still performing well on the field, the coaching staff has elected to keep him out in order to preserve him for the future. While Brown is only under contract for this season, the Redskins are reportedly working on an extension with him. So, perhaps with him out, he will get some extra time to talk to Bruce Allen about re-signing to hold down the middle linebacker for the foreseeable future.

With Brown out, the Redskins are going to be without their top three inside linebackers on the depth chart, as Mason Foster and Will Compton are both on IR. That means that Martrell Spaight, Zach Vigil, and rookie Josh Harvey-Clemons will have to hold down the fort. That could be a tough job for the inexperienced trio, and they could allow the over-the-middle receivers of the Cardinals some success as well.

Of the questionable players for this week, the most notable is Trent Williams. The left tackle has been questionable seemingly every week this season, but he has yet to practice at all this week. With the Redskins out of the playoff race, he may get a maintenance week to allow him time to heal. At this point, the Redskins have to consider putting him on IR, but they may just keep him on the active roster for the rest of the season.

The six other questionable players, per the team’s official site, are as follows: Chase Roullier (hand), Morgan Moses (ankle), Ryan Anderson (ankle), Ryan Grant (ankle), Maurice Harris (concussion), and Terrell McClain (toe). We will keep you posted on their status as Sunday’s game against Arizona draws nearer.
