Agent: Su’a Cravens ready to return in 2018, status with Redskins unclear
The Washington Redskins were without Su’a Cravens for the entire 2017 season. He is ready to return in 2018, but it’s unclear if that will be in Washington.
At the beginning of the 2017 season, the Redskins unexpectedly lost Su’a Cravens for the season. The second year man out of USC was expected to play a big role as a starting safety in the defense, but he ended up leaving the team just before Week 1. At the time, it was reported that he was considering retirement, and many were surprised by his sudden decision.
As time went on, the saga for Cravens got more and more bizarre. Just a few weeks after his initial decision to leave the team, Cravens appeared to be ready to return. However, the Redskins elected to place him on the reserve/left squad list to end his season. That gave Cravens the rest of the year to think about his future, and apparently he has done that.
According to Cravens’ agent Fadde Mikhail, Cravens is wanting to return to the NFL in 2018. Mikhail released a statement that was tweeted by Tom Pelissero on Tuesday morning.
This did a lot to explain Cravens’ shift in behavior. If he truly was suffering from post-concussion syndrome, that could have impacted his wanting to play while he continued to recover. If his head is in the right place, he could find success in 2018.

However, at the same time, Cravens’ agent said nothing about returning to Washington in 2018. One would think that he would say Cravens would return to the Redskins if that was the definite course of action. This could mean that they are unsure if the Redskins will want to bring Cravens back.
Given the performance of rookie Montae Nicholson, the Redskins could elect to part ways with Cravens and try to help him land elsewhere. They may not want to commit to a player who walked away from the team unexpectedly. Perhaps Cravens could go join Sean McVay in Los Angeles, as they could use an upgrade in the secondary.

At the end of the day, it’s impossible to know what will happen with Cravens. But for now, it looks like he will be coming back in one way or another. Whether or not that is in the nation’s capital remains to be seen.
