Redskins Breakdown: Team shows nothing in embarrassing loss to Chargers
Receiving Game: Redskins don’t have No. 1 receiver
If one thing became clear during this contest, it’s that the Redskins don’t have a No. 1 receiver on their roster. Their receiving corps did very little to get open against the tough Chargers secondary and they didn’t provide Cousins with enough to generate passing yards. Casey Hayward is one of the most dominant corners in the league, but the Redskins weren’t able to do anything against him at all.
The two leading receivers for the Redskins were Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder. Both caught three passes for 34 yards. For the most part, the duo was invisible and couldn’t do much. At the best, Doctson looks like a high-end No. 2 receiver while Crowder is best served as a slot man. Both have showed flashes of better ability, but adding a true No. 1 guy would greatly help them.
Right now, there’s no man on the roster who can fill in as the No. 1 guy. They are going to have to find one in free agency or through the draft. Given the lack of success they had finding a top caliber player in free agency, Terrelle Pryor was a major bust, it might be better to try and find a player in the draft. We currently have them doing just that in our latest mock draft, so hopefully they will do that soon.
