The Washington Redskins aren’t favored to do well against the Los Angeles Chargers this week. Our Madden simulation has them pegged to suffer a major loss.

The end of the season is drawing nearer and nearer for the Washington Redskins. With just four games left in the season, the 5-7 Redskins aren’t likely to make the postseason, as they are well behind in the playoff race. At the moment, it appears that the team will be playing for next year with their first stop being on the road against the Chargers.

Right now, the Chargers are looking like one of the hottest teams in the league. Since starting the year 0-4, they have gone 6-2 to catapult themselves into a three way tie for first place in the AFC West. The team will be looking to win to keep pace in that division, which will make it very difficult for Washington to emerge victorious.

This week, the Madden Simulation by App Trigger’s Michael Owens seems to agree with the analysis in all aspects of the game. According to the simulation, the Redskins are projected to lose 31-7 to suffer their eighth loss of the year.

The Redskins offense had a tough time going in the simulation. They scored only one touchdown in the entire game, and that came in the first quarter. Making matters worse, it came on a 70-yard punt return touchdown by Jamison Crowder. While it would be great to see Crowder have some success in the return game, which has been a major issue for him at times this year, the offense putting up zero points simply isn’t an option.

Per the simulation, Kirk Cousins struggled to move the ball and only recorded 161 passing yards during the contest. While that is a low number, it’s quite possible that he could put a performance like that. The Chargers defense is very strong and should stand a chance of shutting down the passing game with Casey Hayward and their strong pass rush too. For that reason, it’s within reason to think that Cousins could put up less than 200 passing yards, so this actually could be accurate.

Elsewhere, other performers of note were Samaje Perine, who totaled 50 yards on 12 carries, and Josh Doctson, who led the team in catches with six and yards with 39. These are both modest projections that are totally within the realm of possibility for the team.

At the end of the day, this simulation could end up being very accurate. The Chargers are a tough matchup, and while a 24 point loss may seem like a lot, this is certainly more realistic than some of the other simulations we’ve looked at throughout the season.
