Having Trent Williams in the fold would be big for the Redskins in a key game against the Dallas Cowboys. He is practicing on Tuesday afternoon.

Trent Williams has had a tough season for the Redskins. When he has been on the field, the star left tackle has generally been very effective. However, he is dealing with a knee injury that has required him to sit out a couple of games. Last week, on a short week, Williams was unavailable to play against the New York Giants. Some were questioning whether or not he would be available this Thursday, and the answer to that is becoming clearer.

On Tuesday, NBC Sports’ Rich Tandler reported that Williams is practicing this week. This would seem to indicate that he will be able to suit up against the Cowboys on Thursday night. While this may seem like a quick turnaround on paper, it’s no different than the Sunday to Sunday schedule he has been working on for most of the season.

As for what this means for the rest of the offensive line, Tandler offered this insight to what the starting unit would look like:

This would be a boon for the Redskins offensive line. Last week, they were without three starters on the unit, as Shawn Lauvao and Spencer Long are both on the Injured Reserve and Williams was inactive. But now, they have their best lineman ready to go on the outside and Ty Nsekhe will move inside to upgrade the guard position. That should solidify the left side of the line and ensure that the unit has only one weakness.

That weakness would be third string center Tony Bergstrom. The former Oakland Raider started last week with Chase Roullier nursing a hand injury. Roullier isn’t certain to play this week, and it seems likely that the team could sit him an extra week and give him 10 days off to allow his broken hand extra time to heal. The line can get by with Bergstrom starting, but it’s definitely better for them to have their four strongest linemen available to help compensate for his weaknesses.

Overall, likely having Williams is big news for the Redskins. They can use him to combat Demarcus Lawrence and try to keep Kirk Cousins upright.
