Terrelle Pryor will go on IR ending his first season with Redskins
The reports back on Terrelle Pryor’s ankle injury were not good. He will now reportedly be placed on Injured Reserve ending what may be his only year with the Redskins.
Out of the blue last week, Terrelle Pryor back one of the bigger name injuries for the Redskins. Pryor, who was dealing with an ankle injury, was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Saints and scheduled to see a specialist about his ankle on Monday. That appointment apparently didn’t go well.
On Monday, Pryor ended up undergoing surgery on his ankle. When the news first broke, there was no timetable for his absence. But Jay Gruden would later clarify that Pryor was out for the season, per Darren M. Haynes of WUSA9 Sports. This will end what was a wildly disappointing season for the first year Redskin.
The free agent wide receiver signed a one year deal in the offseason and was expected to make a big impact on the Redskins. After all, he had just spent a full season producing 1,007 receiving yards on 77 catches with the Cleveland Browns and their quarterback carousel. In Washington alongside Kirk Cousins, he was supposed to improve even more. That never materialized.

From the beginning of the season, Pryor struggled to develop chemistry with Cousins. While the two showed a solid rapport in the first contest of the season, things slowly tapered off from there. Eventually, Pryor was replaced in the starting lineup by Josh Doctson and was effectively benched. He only recorded 20 catches for 240 yards and a single touchdown.
After playing in at least 73 percent of the team’s offensive snaps in each of his first five games, Pryor saw that number decrease drastically. He only played 50 percent of snaps once in the past four weeks and he generally wasn’t effective when on the field.
Pryor was supposed to be a jump ball, red zone threat with athleticism to beat opposing corners. However, it never seemed like his route running skills were there and that cost him dearly. For a team that was looking to replace Pierre Garcon, this fit just wasn’t right.
Now the big question about Pryor is, what is his future? Pryor’s one year deal is up and it’s hard to imagine that Washington would want him back. He’s generally been a waste of cap space and the team would be better off spending their money elsewhere. It seems likely that Pryor will have to sign another “prove it” deal to rebuild his value before getting a big money contract.

At the same time, it’s possible that the injury Pryor suffered had an impact on his season. If he was playing through it, that definitely could have adversely affected his on field performance. He could end up being a steal on the free agent market if he ends up in the right place. But again, a return to Washington seems highly unlikely.
