The seasons of Rob Kelley and Will Compton are officially over. To replace them, the Washington Redskins signed defensive lineman Caraun Reid and running back Byron Marshall to replace them.

The Redskins officially answered a couple of the bigger questions surrounding the team on Tuesday. With the team dealing with injuries to Will Compton and Rob Kelley, it was unclear what help the team would need on the roster. There were rumors that both would be heading to the Injured Reserve, and those were confirmed, per the team’s official Twitter.

Both Compton and Kelley’s seasons will end, and the team had to bring in some new players to replace them. The duo that they brought in was running back Byron Marshall and defensive lineman Caraun Reid. Both players come with some NFL experience and should be solid depth players.

Marshall’s name may be familiar to Redskins fans. He was a member of the Eagles practice squad and active roster over the course of the past couple seasons after spending his college career at Oregon. Marshall has only seen 19 career carries for 64 yards, but he is a versatile player with receiving and return abilities. He may get a crack at functioning as a return man occasionally, and his elusiveness may help out the squad.

Realistically, Marshall won’t see the field too much on offense. He will provide depth as the No. 3 back and provide value on special teams. And, of course, he may be able to divulge some secrets about the Philadelphia offense (though Washington has already played the Eagles twice this year). He should fit in well, and was a solid choice to provide depth, though many fans are still upset that the Skins waived Mack Brown.

On the defensive side, Reid is a very interesting candidate that the Redskins brought in. A former fifth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Reid has played for the Detroit Lions and the then San Diego Chargers over the course of four NFL seasons. Reid was known for his pass rushing ability in college and in limited action as a pro, he has three sacks and two fumble recovery touchdowns. He may have the ability to develop into a quality rotational rusher, and given that he is just about to turn 26, he is still young.

Right now, Reid figures to slot in as the fifth defensive lineman until Matt Ioannidis is fully healthy. The Redskins line has been plagued by injuries, and Reid will be the latest reclamation project for Jim Tomsula. Given Reid’s good athleticism and his college production at Princeton, it will be interesting to see what the team can do with him.

The Redskins still have one spot open on their roster at the moment. They waived defensive lineman Brandon Banks, who was on the active roster for a short time after being called up from the practice squad. It’s expected that the team will add more linebacker depth, given that they have only three players at the position with Compton now on IR. We will monitor that in the coming days.

Overall, these were nice moves made by the Redskins. They got a couple of younger players with upside who will provide decent depth. That should tide them over until their injured players are able to return.
