5. QB Case Keenum vs. Redskins secondary

The Vikings have had a unique quarterback carousel this season. In the season opener, the team absolutely thrashed the New Orleans Saints behind an elite offensive performance from Sam Bradford. However, Bradford woke up with swelling in his knee just days later and missed a good deal of time. He attempted to return in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, but he clearly wasn’t fully healthy. This week, he was placed on IR after having his knee scoped to look for any injuries missed by MRIs and X-Rays.

In his stead, Case Keenum has performed admirably. After being signed as a free agent in the offseason, Keenum is having the best season of his career to date. He has led the team to a 4-2 record in six starts, and he has done well to manage the offense. He has made efficient choices, avoid turnovers, and generally has been a strength for the Vikings.

Still, the team has a quarterback conundrum on their hands. While Keenum has played well, the team now has Teddy Bridgewater waiting in the wings. Bridgewater was the Vikings starter in 2015 and a former first round pick. However, he suffered a terrible knee injury just before the start of the 2016 season and he has been out since. Now fully healthy, he is ready to try and be a starter again.

Now, the pressure is on Keenum to continue to perform well. If he doesn’t, then Bridgewater may get a chance. His first test will come against the Redskins as he looks to stave off his competitor.

The Redskins have a strong secondary that has seen Josh Norman and Kendall Fuller play very well this season. Minnesota doesn’t have a good deal of healthy, quality receivers, so they may have a tough time matching up against Washington.

With all that said, Keenum’s performance will be a key to this game. If the Redskins can bottle him up, then they will have a very good chance to win. And if that happens, the Vikings may consider giving Bridgewater a chance to start sooner rather than later.
