5 Bold predictions for Redskins vs. Seahawks in NFL Week 9
4. D.J. Swearinger leads team in tackles
So far this season, the Redskins best tackler has been Zach Brown. The linebacker signed a one year deal to join the team this offseason and he has had a huge impact on the team. His tackling ability and fundamental skill set rubbed off on players at the beginning of the year, and that was part of what made the defense so strong in the first month of the season.
However, against the Seahawks, Brown’s job is going to be a lot harder. He will have a chance to help shut down the poor Seattle running game, but if he is tasked with spying on Russell Wilson, that could be an issue. Brown is at his best when he makes instinctive decisions to get downhill quickly. With Wilson in the pocket, his job will become harder and as a result, he will have more responsibilities all over the field.
That said, Brown could have a down week this week and allow a different member of the team take the lead as the leading tackler. Given the matchup, D.J. Swearinger could be the logical choice.

Swearinger has had an up-and-down campaign with the Redskins, succeeding against the run but struggling against coverage at times. The Seahawks like to use and target their tight ends, so Swearinger could see a lot of action. He will be tasked with covering these guys down field and over the middle of the field, so he could end up racking up a lot of tackles during the contest. If Wilson continues to spread the ball around, Swearinger is the player who will be tasked with taking on more responsibility than usual.
Swearinger being the team leader in tackles is a possibility. He hasn’t been a big tackler this year, but he has the hard hit ability and the instincts to come downhill and neutralize threats quickly. Depending on how the Seahawks elect to use their offense, seeing Swearinger put up big numbers wouldn’t be a surprise.
