Madden Simulation projects turnover riddled loss for Redskins
The Washington Redskins are taking on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 of the 2017 NFL season. The game is a toss up, but Madden favors the visitors this week.
Last week’s Madden Simulation accurately projected what many were expecting to happen. The simulation projected the Redskins to lose to the Philadelphia Eagles by 14 points, and in reality, the margin of defeat was fairly close (10 points). In Week 8, the simulation is once projecting a Redskins loss, but in a way that is a bit stranger.
App Trigger’s Michael Owens ran his weekly simulation, and the Cowboys ended up coming out on top 27-13. So, the simulation is projecting another 14 point loss. However, on the surface, one would think that the Cowboys-Redskins matchup would be an offensive battle. Both teams have strong quarterbacks and the Cowboys have one of the league’s best running backs set to suit up in Week 8. But in the simulation, the Redskins were unable to get strong play out of their man.
Kirk Cousins has not performed well in many simulations this year. Often, the simulations project him to have very few passing yards and rely heavily on the ground game. That could be because the Redskins run a balanced offense in real life, but it also may be a shortcoming of the simulation.
Regardless, Cousins is not projected to have a good game against the Cowboys. Madden is projecting that he will throw for a meager 129 yards and a touchdown. Making matters worse, the simulation has him throwing a whopping FOUR interceptions. If that does happen, there will be absolutely no chance for the Redskins to compete with the Cowboys. Still, that seems like an overblown number, especially considering that the Dallas defense doesn’t possess the strongest secondary.

On the bright side, Rob Kelley is projected to have a big performance. A favorite of simulations past, Kelley received 31 carries for 137 yards against Dallas to help move the offense. He often sees a lot of carries in the simulations and this was no different. If Kelley could break the century mark in rushing yards, the Redskins will have a real chance to beat the Cowboys.
But again, the turnovers in this contest killed them. Per the simulation, one of Cousins’ picks came just before the half and was returned 61 yards for a touchdown by rookie Jourdan Lewis. If the offense cedes any points, the beat up defense will have trouble slowing down the Cowboys.
One thing about this simulation that was extremely bizarre was Dak Prescott’s numbers. Because of the interceptions by Cousins and the great running by Ezekiel Elliott, he somehow threw for only 30 yards. That absolutely will not happen on Sunday. Prescott is more likely to throw for 10 times that amount.

Overall, this simulation seems to be a bit far fetched. While the Redskins could lose, the outcomes predicted by this are just too unlikely to all happen in a single contest.
