Redskins OG Brandon Scherff suffers MCL sprain, could play vs. Cowboys
By Ian Cummings
Brandon Scherff, the Redskins’ top interior lineman, suffered a leg injury on Monday night. He appeared to be in excruciating pain, but it appears the injury is not as serious as it looked.
The Redskins saw four of their five starting offensive linemen go down with injuries in last night’s brutal matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. While it’s always concerning to see a big man in the trenches go down, none of those injuries were more frightening than the one that Brandon Scherff sustained in the second half.
The former first-round pick’s injury played out as most offensive line injuries do. His knee was rolled on, and he crumbled to the ground almost instantly. Upon the completion of the play, the trainers rushed over. The pain was substantial, enough for Scherff to impulsively fire off a certain four-letter word. He ended up not returning to the game. With Tyler Catalina inactive, Chase Roullier took Scherff’s spot at right guard.
Due to the nature of the injury, fans and coaches were quick to expect the worst. But now that the smoke has cleared, and we’ve gathered some information, we know that the worst has been avoided for now. Gruden offered some insight during his press conference earlier today.
If Scherff does not play this week, his absence would be a noticeable one. He’s been one of the best guards in the NFL through seven weeks, and his game against the 49ers was particularly dominant. He’s frankly the only reason this team has something that resembles a running game. Without him, the Redskins would have a big void to fill.
Nevertheless, the Cowboys are not particularly stout up front. Aside from breakout defensive end Damarcus Lawrence, the team lacks depth and talent in the trenches on defense, and the Redskins’ offensive line should be able to hold their own, even without their mountain man Brandon Scherff.

The Redskins have a short week to prepare and get healthy. They host the Cowboys at 1:00 EST on Sunday. Both teams are 3-3, and the game will not only give one an upper hand in the wild card race, but it will also move one team back below .500. That’s a setback the Redskins can’t afford to have. This game won’t be easy. And without Scherff, it would be even harder.
