The Washington Redskins are projected to beat the San Francisco 49ers by many. This week’s Madden Simulation is just one of the many.

By all accounts, the Redskins Week 6 matchup against the 49ers is a winnable game. The 49ers are one of the three 0-5 teams left in the NFL, joining the ranks of the lowly Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants. They are looking for their first victory, but notching it on the road against Washington is going to be a nearly impossible task.

The Redskins boast one of the league’s most balanced teams. They have a very solid defense and their offense has the potential to be one of the better units in the league. The 49ers don’t have the personnel to properly matchup with their opponent, and that should make this an easy win for the Redskins.

This week, the Madden Simulation by App Trigger’s Michael Owens, seems to be agreeing with that school of thought. They have the Redskins projected to win by a final score of 30-13. While that looks like a blowout win for the Skins, it’s actually a closer game than one would initially anticipate.

Before the fourth quarter, the Redskins were only leading 17-13 in the simulation. This could be because Kirk Cousins failed to generate a great deal of offense. For the entire day, the quarterback only totaled 190 yards though he did notch two touchdowns. This is a poor stat line when taking on a team with the 26th ranked pass defense in the NFL. Cousins will have perform better than that in order to guarantee a victory over their NFC West foe.

In addition to Cousins’ performance, the Redskins saw a solid performance from Dustin Hopkins. Per the simulation, Hopkins drilled three field goals including a long one from 56 yards. If that does happen, that would be huge, given that Hopkins’ deep accuracy hasn’t been strong this season. If the team can get him confidence, that will improve his overall ability.

A final note about the simulation: Rob Kelley rushed for 93 yards on 26 carries and notched a couple of touchdowns. Obviously, this simulation was done before Kelley was announced to be doubtful for Sunday’s contest. That type of performance could still happen, Samaje Perine is the lead candidate to get increased carries, but it’s more likely that yardage will be split between three backs.

Overall, this would be a nice result for Washington. A 17 point victory is nothing to sneeze at, even over a team like the 49ers. Hopefully the simulation is mostly correct this week.
