No matter what, the point is moot

Though this is a fun conversation to have, at the end of the day, it is pointless. The reason we’re talking about this is because Kyle Shanahan brought up the fact that the Redskins wanted Wilson in the draft. It’s something that has been known for a couple of years, but with the quarterback situation still somewhat unsettled due to Cousins’ contract, it keeps getting brought up.

The Redskins had the chance to select Wilson before the Seahawks and passed on him. They ended up with Cousins instead and that has worked out for the most part. Cousins has played well and the only concern with him right now is that he is going to be a free agent in March and the Redskins have essentially wiped out their franchise tag options. But still, Cousins is the Redskins quarterback.

Had Wilson worn the burgundy and gold, a lot might have changed. Flynn may have been the starter for a year in Seattle. RG3 may not have lasted as long in Washington. Wilson likely would not have been a starter as a rookie. But that’s all just hypothetical.

In some parallel universe, the answer to what would have happened in known. But here, it’s not. Would the Redskins be better off with Wilson at quarterback? It’s possible. But they chose to roll with Cousins as their backup in the draft. And right now, that appears to be a fairly solid choice. The real mistake may well have been taking RG3, but that’s a debate for another day.
