The Washington Redskins had three starters inactive for last week’s contest against the Oakland Raiders. This week, it appears that they’ll have at least two of those players back.

Despite the dominating victory that the Washington Redskins recorded against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday Night Football, they were not entirely healthy. The team was without three starters for the contest, but it really did not show. On offense, Jordan Reed and Rob Kelley were inactive. On the defensive side, middle linebacker Mason Foster was unable to play due to a shoulder injury. This week, the Redskins appear to be on track to get a couple of them back.

Both Reed and Kelley seem likely to play in this contest. CSN Mid-Atlantic’s JP Finlay reported that Kelley would likely be active for the game on Friday afternoon. The running back had practiced in a limited basis the previous two days, but he should be fully ready by Monday night.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s John Keim reported on Thursday that Reed was likely to play. Reed said the following of his status, per Keim.

"It feels good being back out there running around and just getting used to the injury. I’ll get out there this week."

Getting both of those players back will be huge for the Redskins offense. They are going to need their running game to be operating very well in order to have a chance against the Chiefs. And while the Chiefs have a solid defense, they have not been particularly good against the run and have allowed many long runs. Having Kelley back will give the Redskins their best power back, while getting Reed back will improve the team’s overall blocking.

However, things are a bit more questionable for Foster. The shoulder injury that he aggravated in the team’s Week 2 win against the Rams is still lingering, and that is going to make him a game time decision for the contest. If he isn’t feeling particularly well, it may behoove the Redskins to give him an extra week of rest and let him get healthy during their Week 5 bye.

If Foster can’t suit up, it seems likely that Martrell Spaight will see an increased role as he did last week. Spaight was very solid as the second middle linebacker for the team, though some were surprised to see him get more snaps that Will Compton. It appears that the Redskins are using Compton as more of a special teams ace, while Spaight has more upside given his youth.

Elsewhere, it seems like the other injured Redskins are likely to suit up. D.J. Swearinger and Jonathan Allen were both limited, but appear to be ready. So the Redskins will be mostly healthy on Monday night, but the health of Foster could be paramount. If the Redskins are without him, they’ll need Spaight to step up and play well to limit the Chiefs defense.
